Kata Strawn
Director of Religious Education
St. Joseph's Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Kata brings a combination of 9 years of experience working in the fields of Religious Education, Youth Leadership, Volunteer Coordination, Administrative Assistance, and Deaf Education.
"As the Director of Religious Education, I enjoy working with a variety of individuals and families. I especially enjoy working with children and teens because it is fun and challenging. It is my privilege to guide them, and I and hope to inspire them spiritually."
Kata Strawn began volunteering at SJCD as an Administrative Assistant in 1995. She began her formal employment with SJCD in August, 1999, as Sacrament Coordinator. She remained in this role for 2 years before expanding to her current position as Director of Religious Education.
Kata's duties include Sacrament Preparation and the coordination of:
- Baptism
- Reconciliation
- First Communion
- Confirmation
- Marriage Preparation and Weddings
- Youth Liturgy / Youth Mass
- Home Visits to the sick and housebound
- Funeral and Memorial Services
In addition to teaching, and coordinating volunteers to teach Catholic Faith Formation and religious Education Classes, Kata also coordinates and leads Youth Mass and Spiritual Retreats for the Catholic Deaf Community.
In her free time, Kata enjoys reading books, doing cross stitch, camping and riding dirt motorcycles with her family.
