Community Support

Community Education

Through a broad range of Family Education, Health Education, Community Education and Well Being Programs, SJCD provides services to the Deaf community. Workshops, seminars and in-services are also provided to expand the Hearing community's understanding of the special needs of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened and Deaf-Blind individuals, allowing their services to be more sensitive, appropriate, supportive and accessible. Individual, group, corporate and business training about serving or working with the Deaf Community is provided as a community service.

Advocacy and Support

As part of the philosophy of SJCD, Advocacy is inherent with all the services we provide with our clients. Each staff member is trained in various issues of advocacy, Deaf culture and community support. Specific needs for education and support such as adjusting to Late-Deafness, Age-Related Hearing Loss, or Cochlear Implants (CI's), may be referred to a specific program at SJCD.

Marketing and Outreach

SJCD can often be found doing outreach in the community to market our programs, recruit clients and volunteers, and to educate the community about our services. Deaf Awareness Day events, Deaf Services Fairs, GradFests, and Deaf Expo's are just some of the outreach events where you can find SJCD's presence. Staff provide the community with information and materials about our services. Our Staff also offer community presentations about their individual professions for high school and college Career Exploration classes.
